It is indisputable that Warnemünde is one of the most delightful traditional German seaside resorts on the Baltic Sea coast. The former fishing village boasts a history stretching back 800 years and a 160-year tradition as a seaside resort. Incidentally, this was where the covered wicker beach chair first appeared in 1883; bathers now had somewhere to retreat to on the beach where they could protect themselves from the intense effects of the sun and wind.
Warnemünde is the most attractive district of Rostock. It is situated right by the sea at the point where the small river Warnow flows into the Baltic Sea. And this is also the site of the new yachting marina at Yachthafenresidenz “Höhe Düne”, surrounded by miles of white sandy beaches.
This top-class 5-star marina boasting 750 comfortable berths and perfect service has a Mediterranean feel to it.
The yachting area around Warnemünde is highly regarded within Germany and abroad on account of its particularly favourable conditions. It is one of the most popular venues for regattas in Europe.
An annual highlight is Hanse Sail in August, a meeting of lots of large and traditional sailing vessels from all over the world.
The transport links are excellent – by car via the A19 / A 20 motorways as far as the Rostock-Ost exit, then onto the B 105 towards Stralsund and on via Markgrafenheide to Höhe Düne or alternatively via the A 20 Rostock-Warnemünde, along the B 103 and then take the ferry from Warnemünde – by plane: fly to Rostock-Laage Airport and then either hire a car or take a taxi.
