like the Vikings .... but in greater comfort!!!
| Åaland
islands Most of the islands
are so small, or there are so many coves, that you will always find a secluded
place to land. However, there are mostly only cliffs here. Only very rarely will
you encounter sandy beaches. Those islands that are somewhat larger are inhabited
at least some of the time. You should ensure that you take adequate provisions
because the choice is very limited, especially on the smaller islands. In spite
of this, it is possible to buy home-grown fruit and vegetables here. There is
a lot to discover on Aaland, for example Kastelholm castle or the fort at Bomarsund.

Finland
Finland is known as the land
of a thousand lakes but in reality there are between 50,000 and 70,000 lakes,
depending on the size of water expanse that is still considered to be a lake.
The sea with its skerries is a truly marvellous place. An enchanting sea of exquisite
beauty characterises the inner stretch of the skerries while the outer stretch
casts a spell on visitors with its barren and unspoilt tranquility. A secluded
cove in which there are no other boats, on an unpopulated island, the chance to
be alone at last and far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life – these
are the things that the Scandinavians appreciate the most. There is an abundance
of such coves and islands in Finland, but there are also well-developed working
harbours with shops, cafes and high-quality landing stages. While you are enjoying
the landscape and the sunshine, you can decide yourself during the final miles
at sea each day where you would like to spend the night – you can drop anchor
in the lap of nature or you can opt for a fixed mooring in a secure harbour, protected
by a breakwater. | |
