Greece – Get away from it all …meet the Ancient World
Greece,
There is more about Greece than Sirtaki and sheep`s milk cheese – it offers many islands that have a varied landscape and the most different sailing conditions. Every watersportsman – ranking from the beginner ( there are soft winds in the Ioniac Sea) to the hard-boiled men`s crew (Cyclades in mid-summer with Meltimi windforce 7/8)- will get his money`s worth. To write about the beauty of the country and its myriad islands is almost impossible, would mean “carrying coals to Newcastle”. Comprehensive information as well as literature about this land of the ancient world are directly obtainable through us.

The Ionian Islands,
The Ionian Islands form a group of 7 main islands (Corfu, Paxi, Levkada, Cephallonia, Ithaki, Zante, Kythera) all of which Corfu is the largest. In contrast to the Aegean Sea whose name is well-known by to every sailor, the Ionian Sea still is an insider`s tip . The wind and weather are much more even than in the Aegean and the Adriatic Sea. Forget about Meltemi and Bora. The Ionian Sea has a low storm frequency and a moderate Mediterannean climate. The lush vegetation is a contrast to the mountains of Albania and the Greek mainland. There are pine forests and vine yards, rocky bays with fine sandy beaches often only accessible through the sea. Find your way through the fabulous mazes of caves on the island of Paxos, which can be reached by boat or simply by swimming. In comfy pubs you can join the natives and have an Ouzo or wait and see what the chef has prepared for you. Earlier on, the Islands have been besieged by the Venetians, the French and the Britons. Out of this mixture of the most different ethnics and cultures, a harmonically culture has been emerging that is unmistakeable but very different to the rest of Greece.

Peloponnese
The Peloponnese is the southern most region of the Greek mainland. Being originally an island, it was separated and rejoint twice by geological displacement from the mainland. As a result of the going down of the sea level, the Isthmus of Corinth had emerged. At this land bridge, the Channel was opened in the 19th century and made the Peloponnese an island for the third time – but not in a natural way. Geologically it is rough land whose countryside is characterized by long mountain ranges. The climate is Mediterannean on the coast and relatively continental in its heart. The smell of the sea and the mountains, the vintage, of olives and citrus fruits, every spot is evocative of a Greek myth. Cities, towns, seaside resorts and villages, which have retained their significance of the ancient world to until today and are situated between grey cliffs, rugged rocks and thorny furze. Villages next to the seemingly infinite sea and people full of vitality, hospitality, self-respect and pride.

The Sporades Islands
The Sporades Archipelago situated in the north east of Euboea and in the south of the Manisa Penisula dominated by the Pelion, consists of four main islands: Skiathos, Skiros, Skopelos and Alonnissos and numerous rocky islets. These islands, which became well-known as the Islands of Magnesia, have more or less a common history. They attract visitors from all over the world due to the magic of their underwater world, the green countryside, the huge number of beautifully spread beaches. On the Sporades everyone can get what he wants out of his holidays because every single island has its own atmosphere. Picturesque shorelines, villages with traditional architecture as well as churches, castles and monasteries that invite to being discovered. The climate on the Sporades is particularly suitable for unproblematic sailing, as the Meltimi is not as strong as in the south. It comes from a north eastern direction but often changes in the Sporades because of the islands and channels.

Cyclades
The Cyclades Islands are considered to be some of the most beautiful Greek islands. Crystal-clear deep blue water, spacious sandy beaches, the typically snow-white painted cubical houses with colourful windows and doors and the picturesque harbours and the painted fishing boats make your holiday a special experience. In ancient times, they were called the “Hellas` Pearls” because of its opulence and fertility- today, however, they are bare and mainly infertile. The Cyclades Islands are a central chain of islands in the Aegean Sea and have been given their name because they surround the island of Delos – klyklos means circle in the Greek language. They had been known worldwide as the hub of historical trade, policy and religion. You will enjoy the lively night life, the sandy beaches on Mykonos, on Paros, Naxos and Ios, the architecture of Santorini and Tions, the center of orthodox belief. Islands such as Kea, Sikonos, Serifos, Milos etc offer a huge contrast because of their simplicity. You should also visit smaller islands such as Iraklia, Koufonisia and Dhonousa where you will find unspoiled villages, protected small harbours and hidden anchorages that still have to be discovered. The sailing conditions are generally more difficult than in the rest of the areas in Greece. Hence, we would suggest a cruise of at least two weeks.
Dodecanes
The possibilities for sailing in the Dodocanes are unexhaustible thanks to the 14 beautiful and unique islands in this area. There are some of the most marvellous islands of the Mediterannean Sea in the emerald-green distance of the South Aegean Sea. It is worthwile visiting all of the islands of the Dodecanes Islandlands such as Simi and its idyllic harbour, Patmos with its well-known monastery of Apostle John – and home of the sponge divers, - Arki, Lipsos, Leros and Kalminos. They offer a variety of amusement trips, historical discovery trips, night life as well as endless relaxation in the numerous small bays. During the storm season, from July to September, this area is rather suitable for experienced yachtsmen.

Cyprus
is the third largest island in the eastern Mediterranean. All over the island, there are ruins from the stone-age, as well as Roman theatres and Greek temples. Cedar woods casting welcome shade encircle the wild cliffs and sandy bays of this history-laden island. Cypriots are particularly helpful and friendly. You would almost believe that the warming Mediterranean sun is reflected in the hearts and souls of the island’s inhabitants. As far as entertainment goes, you’re more than catered for. Visit one of the many wine or village festivals – you’ll always be made very welcome! For those of you who sometimes like to let your hair down at night, there are bars, nightclubs and discotheques that thanks to Cypriot hospitality, which has clearly lost all track of time, stay open way past midnight. But Cyprus also has leisurely pleasures to offer. Just saunter through the craft centres and boutiques and you’ll soon be marvelling at Cypriot lace and hand-made pottery. Or spend a day on the beach and while away the evening in one of the many picturesque and peaceful villages. As you can see, Cyprus has something for everyone.

The Meltimi from a northern direction in the Cycladed assures especially in summer a sportive sailing and is likely to have strong wind force. If you like it more calm you should go on a cruise in spring or fall. The Sporades Islands offer less wind but with a noticeable impact of the summerly thermal winds.
