Marsala
(from the Arabic "Marsa Ali") is well-known for its dessert wine. Aside the beautiful
heart of the city, there are the ancient excavation sites at the Cape of Lilibeo.
There is also the museum were a Punian ship from the 3rd century is exhibited.
If you leave Marsala in a northern direction you will pass the salt mills and
Salinas. Marsala is the perfect port to start towards the Aegadian Islands - Favignana,
Marettimo and Levanzo. In spring this region in the ocean becomes a highway for
tuna fish that, in a way, have created jobs and economic growth. Those who have
enough time could sail to the Pelagic Islands - Lampedusa, Linosa and Lampione
(about 230 kilometres) - even Malta is not that far away. |
