Barcelona/Port Olympic
Embedded in the Barcelona plain between the rivers of Besos and Llobregat, the city has a particularly pleasant climate, sheltered by the Collserola Mountains in the north and in the east by the Garraf Massif. Originally the city was established by the Romans on Taber Mount and then spread across the plain. Today the city has some 1.8 million inhabitants, suburbs not included, and expands further Mount Tibidabo. Although Castilian is Spainīs official language, in Barcelona`s inhabitants prefer to speak Catalanian. From Plaza Catalanya down to the harbour runs the "Rambles" perfect for strolling along. Lined by plane trees since the 18th century it is today one of the most magnificent avenues in Spain and offers varied possibilities of passing time. Aside benches and chairs inviting to have a rest, there are countless kiosks offering books, flowers and birds and a huge field of activity for artists of any kind. The cathedral is the centre of the Bari Gotic, an old Gothic Quarter with a number of medieval buildings and some remnants of the city wall of the Roman core settlement from the 4th century. The Olympic Games in 1992 gave a new face to the city, but especially to the marina "Olympic".
