Brazil, a dream destination, paradise on earth!

Brazil,
Sail in the tracks of the great seafarer Amerigo Vespucci, who as early as the start of the 16th century was moved to make the following exclamation: “Oh God, if there were a paradise on earth, then it would resemble this very spot right here.”
Brazil is a real alternative to the exotic sailing destinations such as the Caribbean or the Seychelles. You can enjoy relaxed sailing around 365 islands in the tremendous unspoilt natural surroundings of the Costa Verde, the name given by locals to the indescribably green coastal region with its imposing mountain massifs, the lush tropical forests extending right down to the water’s edge.
Why not combine the carnival in Rio or a holiday on the Copacabana with a sailing cruise?

Wind and Weather

In the spring (Sept.-Nov.) and autumn (Apr.-May), temperatures are generally pleasant – excellent travel weather. In the summer (Dec.-March), thermometers can even exceed the 40°C mark. Short bursts of heavy tropical rainfall are a common feature. The water temperatures range from 17°C in the winter up to 28°C in summer. The direction of the wind is governed predominantly by the way the land and the sea are arranged. During the day, the wind blows at up to 4 Bft. from the land towards the sea. In the evening, the direction of the wind turns round from the sea towards the land.

Currency & Cash:

The Brazilian currency is the “Real”. It is advisable to take US$ in cash and US$ traveller’s cheques with you as well as one of the customary credit cards: Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted almost everywhere; Diners Club is not used as widely. Foreign money can be exchanged at the branches of banks at the international airports or at bureaux de change “Casa de Câmbio” in the larger towns and cities. A passport must be shown to cash in traveller’s cheques. It may be difficult to change money in rural areas. You should make sure that you have Brazilian money with you at all times in such areas.

Language & Local Time:

Brazilian (= Portuguese with Brazilian pronunciation, a choice of words and peculiarities of grammar).

Travel & Arrival:

Travellers wishing to enter Brazil require a valid passport and a form for entry into the country "Cartão de Entrada / Saída", which is handed out on the plane. Please be aware with this form that the carbon copy must be handed in when you leave the country. Difficulties may arise if it is not. Young people under the age of 18 travelling on their own also require a certified declaration of consent in writing which is translated into Portuguese and is signed by a notary, the relevant consulate and both parents. This declaration must be stamped by a Brazilian consulate (forms can be requested from the consulates). German, Austrian and Swiss nationals do not require a visa to enter Brazil.
